Magic Millions January Sale in Focus

12 Jan 2015

Four lots were offered on the opening day of the 2015 Magic Millions January Yearling Sale. The first was the Uncle Mo x Astonish colt who sold to Chris Waller for $80,000. Second was the Smart Missile x Beebop colt who sold for $170,000 to Kieran Moore for successful owner Ron Wanless. Next was the Fastnet Rock x Boisterous Lady colt who was sold for $350,000 to Chris Waller on behalf of a syndicate which includes Segenhoe Stud and the fourth and final horse for the day to go through the ring was the Commands x Church on Sunday colt who sold for $135,000 to Neville Parnham who previously brought Gr 2 winner ROMMEL off us - also by Commands and also offered through the MM sale.

Day 2 saw the Fumble colt (by Exceed and Excel) make $400,000 to the bid of James Harron (underbidder being the Hong Kong Jockey Club). It was a particularly sweet result for long term client John Madwick who bowed out of the industry today - this being his final sale. What a way to bid farewell to a client of 20 years! The Testa Rossa x Gemstone filly won our hearts by dutifully spending the most amount of time out of all the yearlings on the walker each day due to her girth which refused to shrink. The filly sold for $55,000 to leading WA trainer Simon Miller. Clients Suni Carnes and Gordon Henderson were then ringside to watch their Snitzel x Lassiters Cat filly get sold for the superb sum of $175,000 - the buyer being young gun Victorian trainer Henry Dwyer.

Day 3 saw 2 lots offered: the first the Sepoy x Marina Lady colt who made $90,000 to the bid of Eales Racing in Victoria and the second the Foxwedge x Pink Siris filly who made $130,000 to the bid of Dan Bougoure.

Saturday evening saw just one horse to go through the ring - the So You Think x Sun Song colt who had been widely admired in the days leading into the sale. He set the ring alight being knocked down for $430,000 to First Light Racing and Peter Moody.

Overall Willow Park averaged $201,500 for 10 yearlings sold - all yearlings were sold through the ring - and it's the farm's highest average for 8 years.

2 lots were offered through the ring during Session 5 and both were sold making it an amazing 12 from 12 sold through the ring (awesome job Team WP). The first lot was the Lonhro x Petroica filly. Bless the precious girl but she won't win any beauty contests but she had a great nature and was a superb walker. She was knocked down to MM as agent for $55,000.

The final lot to be offered at the 2015 MM Yearling Sale was a colt who could have walked for Australia (he was lapping them up at the pre parade ring!). The Testa Rossa x Sassybella colt was sold to Jason Coyle for $75,000 - what a superb home for this colt to have gone to. He will be given every opportunity.
