Aeliana (NZ) wins the ATC Derby

07 Apr 2025

Master trainer Chris Waller claimed the Group 1 ATC Derby on Saturday with a special filly in Aeliana (NZ), who recorded her first Gr1 win at start 10 and became only the tenth filly in history to win the race.

It was an exciting result for Willow Park as vendors of her dam, Temolie (Star Witness), who was sold to Edinburgh Park through our 2019 Magic Millions Broodmare Sale draft for $130,000.

Edinburgh benefitted from immediate updates to Temolie's pedigree, including her half-sister Invincibella (I Am Invincible) winning the Group 1 Tatt's Tiara few weeks after the sale, selling her on two years later for $200,000, where the lucky buyers were Rich Hill Stud.

Temolie was sold carrying her first foal by Super One who was unraced and was dry when sold on by Edinburgh Park, producing Aeliana (Castelvecchio) as her second foal. She has visited resident Rich Hill sire Proisir in every season since.

Averaging $197,500 for four yearlings sold at auction, Aeliana making $180,000 at Karaka, her next yearling will be a little more sought-after!

Temolie is the third Willow Park-sold broodmare to produce a Group 1 winner this season, alongside Happy Pilgrim (Private Harry) and Zenaida (Sunshine in Paris).

She is one of six mares from our 2019 MM Broodmare Sale to produce a stakes horse to date.

A big congratulations to Nearco Stud, Rich Hill, Star Thoroughbreds and all involved in Temolie and Aeliana, what an exciting filly she is!
