BROODMARES

A few years ago, we began to focus more on offering a selection of well-related, young mares in foal to commercial stallions at the broodmare sales annually. From drafts of around 50 mares per year across two broodmare sales, we have begun to see some fantastic racetrack results from progeny of these broodmare sale graduates.

In the 2023-24 racing season, there were 12 stakes winners produced by Willow Park-sold broodmares, including an incredible three Group 1 winners (Benedetta, Quintessa and Velocious). 10 broodmares offered for sale by Willow Park have produced Group 1 winners, including the following in recent years:

  • KEYSBROOK (So Secret) was sold for $140,000 in 2017 carrying her first foal. She has since produced dual-Gr1 winner SHE'S EXTREME (Extreme Choice), who sold for $3.4million at the Inglis Chairman's Sale 2024.
  • ZENAIDA (Zabeel) was sold for $240,000 in 2021 carrying her fourth foal. Her third foal (unraced at the time of sale) became Gr1 winner Sunshine in Paris (Invader). Zenaida was on-sold at the 2023 Magic Millions Broodmare Sale for $1.4m, where Sunshine In Paris sold for $3.9m.
  • FORTUNE'S CHOICE (Redoute's Choice) was sold for $120,000 in 2016 carrying her first foal. She is now the dam of Gr1 winner BONHAM (Per Incanto), who was later sold by Willow Park for $1.6million as a racing/breeding prospect.
  • PARMALOVE (Snitzel) was sold for $230,000 in 2018 carrying her first foal. She has since produced Gr1 winning two-year-old VELOCIOUS (Written Tycoon). Parmalove was sold through Inglis Digital in 2024 for $730,000.
  • CHAQUINTA [NZ] (High Chaparral) was sold for $120,000 in 2018 carrying her first foal. She is now the dam of one Gr1 winner QUINTESSA (Shamus Award).
  • WHATALOVELYDAY (Domesday) was initially passed in off the track for $125,000, before selling the following year carrying her first foal for $150,000. She has since produced Gr1 winner BENEDETTA (Hellbent).

We aim to offer young mares from progressive families and get great satisfaction in seeing pedigrees upgraded for new owners of these mares. Examples of mares that have received valuable pedigree upgrades after being sold by Willow Park include:

  • SEEWHATSHEBRINGS (Sebring) was sold for $450,000 in 2021. At the time of her sale, Seewhatshebrings was a half-sister to two stakes placegetters. In the two years since she was sold, her half-siblings MALKOVICH, OLENTIA and WANDABAA have all won stakes races. Seewhatshebrings was sold on for $800,000 in 2022.
  • IT'S OUR SHOWTIME (Showcasing) was sold in 2019 for $150,000. At the time of her sale, her half sister INSPIRATIONAL GIRL (Reliable Man) was a winner of her only start. She is now a winner of 10, including the Gr1 Railway Stakes. Another half sister, Brookspire (Hinchinbrook) has won five races including the $1m Magic Millions F&M in 2023 and is Gr3 placed.
  • TEMOLIE (Star Witness) was sold for $130,000 in 2019, as a half sister to then-triple Gr2 winner INVINCIBELLA (I Am Invincible). Since the sale, not only did Invincibella add a Gr1 win to her resume, but another two half siblings, SECRET BLAZE (Sizzling) and EXTREME FLIGHT (Extreme Choice), have both won at stakes level.
