Babylon back in the winner's circle
06 Mar 2023
There wasn't a more deserving winner anywhere on Saturday than our star graduate Babylon Berlin, who thrashed her rivals by seven lengths easing down in the Group 3 King's Plate (1200m) at Te Rapa.
Backing up from three consecutive seconds at Group 1 level (twice by the barest of margins!), it was the fourth stakes win for the tough five year old mare by All Too Hard and her seventh career win, taking her earnings to just under NZ$500,000. Trainer Ben Foote was thrilled to see the mare back in the winner's circle in emphatic style and confirmed she will now head to Melbourne for a tilt at the Gr1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on March 24.
Bred by New Zealand-based breeder Scott Williams, Babylon Berlin is the final foal of You Can't Say That (Fusaichi Pegasus), a long-time resident mare at Willow Park, who also produced Gr3 winner Darci Be Good (Darci Brahma). She was foaled and raised at Willow Park, before departing to New Zealand as a yearling.
Babylon Berlin has two half sisters residing at Willow Park - Reply Churlish (O'Reilly) is in foal to The Autumn Sun and Shush (Redoute's Choice), who had a Blue Point colt sell for $325,000 at Magic Millions and has a weanling filly by Dundeel.
