Broodmare sale wrap
30 May 2025

This week’s Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale signalled the end of sales season for Willow Park and despite a much smaller draft than we have presented in recent years, we were pleased to find new homes for three of the four mares we offered at the Gold Coast.
The success of our previous broodmare sale graduates has been much publicised of late and it was great to see more fantastic results across the weanling and broodmare sales this week.
One such result was Ad Merajj [FR], who was sold to Baramul Stud for $100,000 at this sale last year, carrying her first foal by Starspangledbanner. Baramul sold the resulting filly for $160,000 last week, then sold Ad Merajj herself for $200,000, a nice return in 12 months!
Emotional Moment [GB] was another nice mare sold at this sale last year, making $125,000 to the bid of James Harron Bloodstock. She was carrying her second foal, a Stay Inside colt that sold last week for $225,000.
In relation to current stock back home on the farm, Group 1 winner Climbing Star (Zoustar) lit up the sale ring on day one of the broodmare sale, bringing $2.1million to the bid of Coolmore’s Tom Magnier.
The gorgeous mare is a half-sister to WP resident mare Buy Me A Birkin (Charm Spirit), who is expecting her first foal this season by Newgate Farm’s exciting young prospect Ozzmosis.
Finally, it was great to see some WP foaled and raised graduates lighting up the sale ring as well, highlighted by the gorgeous Finepoint (Pins) who realised $1.3million in foal to the superstar Extreme Choice.
Finepoint (pictured) was foaled at WP for long time NZ-based client David Paykel, being the final foal from his homebred Gr2 winner Zarzuela [NZ] (Zabeel). A four-time winner with four stakes placings to her name - two at Gr2 level - Finepoint’s second dam was the NZ Champion 3YO Sprinting Filly, Star Satire [NZ] (Volksraad).
It is a family we came to know well over the years and the brilliant Zarzuela produced seven winners from seven to race, including three stakes horses - all of whom were foaled at WP before eventually making their way to NZ to race.
Another long time Kiwi client also parted with one of his star WP-born homebreds on day one of the sale, when Bloodstock Resources’ Babylon Berlin was knocked down for $850,000. This is another family we know well and WP is currently home to two of Babylon’s half-sisters in Reply Churlish [NZ] and Shush.
While we were sad to not see the speedy mare in person at the complex, having been offered virtually in the international section, we are proud of the incredible race record she has put together with 10 wins (seven at stakes level) and look forward to seeing her pass on her speed to her foals in the future!
