Cork Harbour heads metro double
15 Mar 2026
With just seven graduates running across the country on Saturday, we were thrilled to finish the day with a metropolitan double and a provincial quinella, plus another placegetter to boot.
Cork Harbour (pictured) has been a consistent galloper for trainer Dean Saxon in the past year and added a ninth win to his resume on Saturday over 1250m at Morphettville.
Saturday's win was his third at city level and while he may be on the smaller side, the seven-year-old son of Snitzel can match strides with the big guns, particularly when he gets over his pet distance of 1200m!
The second foal of juvenile Listed winner Maritimo [NZ] (Pins), Cork Harbour was foaled and raised at WP for the late Fergus Doyle and was sold for $475,000 at the 2020 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, which was forced online at the last minute due to the pandemic.
King Hit followed suit later in the night at Ascot, making it back-to-back city wins over the 1400m for local trainer Trevor Andrews.
The well-named four-year-old burst through in the finishing stages, showing plenty of fight to win by a neck. Recording his fifth win - third city win - at start 19, King Hit has now banked $158,000 for connections.
The son of Magna Grecia [IRE] out of Sucker Punch (Encosta de Lago) is a case of 'one that got away', having passed in short of his $80,000 reserve when offered through our 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast draft.
Rounding out the day, Nicconori went all the way to notch up his fourth win at Rockhampton for trainer Gary Clem, beating home fellow WP graduate Better Than Words (Better Than Ready).
The final foal of Listed winner Takanori (Vital Equine), Nicconori was initially retained to race by his breeders, later selling online to new connections who have enjoyed four wins and another six top four placings from 12 starts since he relocated to Queensland.
