Double for Autumn at the Gold Coast

28 Nov 2022

Saturday saw a bittersweet double for the late broodmare Autumn (O'Reilly), who provided the winners of back-to-back races at the Gold Coast Turf Club.

The progressive three-year-old Storm The Fortress (Invader) extended his unbeaten run to three for Edmonds Racing, with another impressive win over 1350m.

Storm The Fortress was sold at Magic Millions for $120,000 to Edmonds Racing and Kestrel Thoroughbreds and has recouped $70,000 of his purchase price in just three starts to date, winning with ease again on Saturday.

In the very next race, four-year-old gelding Arentee (Territories (IRE)) also scored his third win, providing apprentice jockey Melea Castle with her first Saturday metropolitan winner.

Trained by Meagher Racing, Arentee was also sold at Magic Millions, purchased by Chris Meagher for $60,000. Arentee has three wins, a Listed second placing and $162,000 to his named in just nine starts.

A fantastic achievement for a broodmare to score a winning double, it also adds updates to the pedigree of Autumn's yearling colt by Too Darn Hot (GB), who is catalogued as lot 264 in February's Inglis Classic Sale.

She also leaves behind a two-year-old colt by Rubick that has been retained to race by breeders Hugh Fletcher and Dame Sian Elias, to be trained by Matt Dale, and a colt foal by Territories that is a full brother to Arentee.
