Lassified wins Listed Wellesley Stakes

05 Jan 2026

Juvenile stakes racing is heating up in the New Year and it was the Listed Wellesley Stakes (1100m) at Trentham that provided a super result for Willow Park on Saturday.

Two-year-old filly Lassified (Stay Inside) was the star of the show, pinging the gates and leading all the way to score by half a length in the $100,000 contest.

The Andrew Forsman-trained filly was making her third raceday appearance, having won on debut over 1000m at Tauherenikau in November by a long neck.

The writing was on the wall at her second start in the Group 2 Wakefield Challenge Stakes (1110m), where she jumped from the outside gate of seven, working hard early to cross the field and lead, eventually finishing fourth to star filly Lara Antipova (Russian Revolution).

Raised at Willow Park before joining the Twin Hills Stud draft for the Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale where she made $70,000, Lassified was pinhooked by the team at Glenbeigh Farm, later selling to Andrew Willams Bloodstock and Forsman Racing at Inglis Classic for $110,000.

The second stakes winner for Newgate Farm’s Golden Slipper winner Stay Inside (Extreme Choice), the talented filly is raced by an OTI Racing Ladies’ Syndicate, who now have the $2million Inglis Millenium in their sights.

Lassified is out of beautifully-bred mare Exclusive Lass (Nicconi), who counted the Listed Black Pearl Stakes (1200m) among her three victories.

Exclusive Lass was initially sold by Willow Park at the 2018 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale carrying her first foal by Vancouver. James Harron Bloodstock signed for the mare at $460,000 on behalf of renowned breeder/owner Fergus Doyle, who then sent her back to Willow Park to join his broodmare band.

Exclusive Lass produced five foals for the Doyle family at Willow Park, of which four were sold as yearlings at an average of $408,750. Along with Lassified, she has produced three more winners including the injury-plagued Gr2 placegetter Boyfriend (Snitzel).

From a wonderful black-type producing family descending from the tough racemare Artletty [NZ] (Centaine), Lassified and Boyfriend join US Gr3 winner Uncorked (Pierro x Piaf) as WP-born stakes horses from the family, while WP-born Axiomatic (O’Reilly x Axiom) has produced Listed winner Zouatica (Zoustar).

Fergus Doyle’s bloodstock interests were dispersed upon his passing in 2023 and fittingly Lassified is the final foal he bred. Exclusive Lass was sold again through the 2024 MM Broodmare Sale to the Royal Meeting Syndicate.
