Parmalove rewards Inglewood

27 Nov 2023

Two-year-old filly Velocious (Written Tycoon) rocketed to Karaka Million favouritism on Saturday, with a brilliant win in the Listed Counties Challenge Stakes (1100m) for Stephen Marsh.

Unbeaten in two starts to date, Velocious showed an explosive turn of foot in the final 200m to win by 1.5 lengths. The impressive win caused her trainer to draw comparisons to his Gr1 Sistema Stakes and Karaka Million winning filly, former WP resident mare Ruud Awakening [NZ] (Bernardini).

A NZ$190,000 Karaka yearling, Velocious is the third foal of two-time juvenile winner Parmalove (Snitzel), a half-sister to two stakes winners in Liesele (Exceed and Excel) and another former WP resident mare, Loved Up (Nicconi).

Parmalove was purchased by Canterbury breeders Inglewood Stud for $230,000 from Willow Park's 2018 Magic Millions Broodmare Sale draft, carrying her first foal by Capitalist. That filly, Mozzarella, was retained by Inglewood and won twice from 10 starts, also running fourth at Listed level as a two-year-old.

Parmalove's second foal, Penvose Lad [NZ] (U S Navy Flag), has had five starts today for one win and three placings, including a 0.1L second in the Listed Champagne Stakes (1200m) at two.

With three winners, two stakes performers, from her first three foals, plus fillies by Dundeel [NZ] and Per Incanto [USA] waiting in the wings, Parmalove has made a dream start to her breeding career for the Inglewood Stud team and we look forward to seeing what the future holds for the beautifully-bred mare.
