Second stakes win for Oughton

24 Jun 2025

The Listed Eye Liner Stakes is always a hotly contested race at the Ipswich winter carnival and the 2025 edition provided another great result for Willow Park-sold broodmares, with Oughton victorious and Fortunate Kiss taking third place.

Already a Listed winner earlier this season, Oughton (More Than Ready (USA)) is a six-year-old out of La Fluorescent (General Nediym), was sold at the 2016 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale for $240,000 to Makybe Stud.

A half-sister to Gr2 winner Savvy Nature (Savabeel) and Gr3 winner Addictive Nature (Savabeel), La Fluorescent didn’t manage a win in her two starts on the track, but is on her way to creating a dynasty at stud.

At the time of her sale, La Fluorescent (pictured) was carrying her third foal, the Snitzel filly Moldova, who won her first two (of only five) starts racing for Makybe, before running fifth in the Listed Redoute's Choice Stakes at Caulfield.

Moldova has made the dream start to her stud career, producing Group 1 NZ 1000 Guineas winner Captured By Love (Written Tycoon) as her first foal.

Third place in Saturday’s race went to Fortunate Kiss (Divine Prophet), the six-year-old daughter of Kiss Me Goodbye - a dual winning daughter of Savabeel.

Kiss Me Goodbye was sold to Tony Falcone at the 2017 Magic Millions Broodmare Sale for $85,000 carrying her first foal and has produced four winners from four to race.

A four-time winner herself, Fortunate Kiss recorded her fourth black type placing in the Eye Liner Stakes.
