Stakes winner for Calianco
17 Apr 2025

Continuing a super run for Willow Park-sold broodmares, Calianco became the latest black type producer on Saturday, when two-year-old filly Talkanco claimed the Group 3 Gimcrack Stakes at Ascot.
Having her fourth start for Pearce Racing, Talkanco (I'm All The Talk) was a debut winner over 1100m in November, following that up with a second in the $100,000 Crystal Slipper (1100m), before going out for a spell.
Returning to the track late March, she recorded a close third first-up in the Listed Supremacy Stakes (1000m), before producing a strong finish to score by a whisker in a thrilling finish in Saturday's Gimcrack Stakes.
Talkanco is the third stakes winner for ill-fated stallion I'm All The Talk, a son of Stratum who died prematurely leaving six crops of foals.
The filly is raced in part by Woodbridge Thoroughbreds, who bred her from Calianco (California Dane), purchased from our 2019 Magic Millions Broodmare Sale draft for $52,500.
A five-time winner, including three wins at metropolitan level, Calianco is out of a half-sister to Gr2 winner Blur (Flying Spur) and juvenile Gr3 winner Shrewd Rhythm (Danehill Dancer).
Sold by WP carrying her first foal by So You Think (NZ), Calianco has produced three foals to race for three multiple winners.
Broodmares sold by WP have produced seven stakes winners this season, highlighted by Gr1 winners Aeliana (NZ), Private Harry and Sunshine in Paris. Additionally, of the broodmares sold in 2019, seven have produced black type horses so far, with their oldest foals only five-year-olds.
