Sunshine in Paris Everest bound
16 Sep 2024
With shades of deja vu, Sunshine in Paris kicked off her spring campaign on Saturday with a win in the Group 2 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens. The Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald trained mare also won the 2023 version of the race, four months after she sold for $3.9million at the Magic Millions Broodmare Sale.
Also a winner of the Group 1 Surround Stakes in 2023 at her fifth start, Sunshine in Paris is a lightly raced mare with just 10 starts under her belt, for five wins and three placings. Her trainers commented after Saturday's win that the mare will start in her owner Fairway Thoroughbreds' slot in the Everest.
By Aquis Farm sire Invader, Sunshine in Paris is a product of the Zabeel mare Zenaida (NZ), who was sold by Willow Park at the 2021 Magic Millions Broodmare Sale for $240,000 to the bid of Paul Willetts Bloodstock for Three Bridges Thoroughbreds. At the time of the sale, Sunshine in Paris was an unnamed yearling.
Zenaida's connections capitalised on the Group 1 success achieved by Sunshine in Paris, re-offering Zenaida (pictured) at the 2023 edition of the Magic Millions Broodmare Sale, where she sold to Yulong for $1.4million.
Further broodmare success came just three races later at Rosehill, when Boom Torque (Spirit of Boom) placed third in the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes (1200m), gaining his first black type.
Boom Torque is the second foal of Outback Saga (Real Saga), an eight-time winner who was sold by Willow Park at the 2018 Magic Millions Broodmare Sale for $200,000 to Steve Morley Bloodstock/Glenlogan Park Stud.
Outback Saga produced four foals for Glenlogan before she unfortunately died, that averaged $147,500 as yearlings. Five-year-old Boom Torque is the winner of seven from 15 to date, including a win in the $1million Magic Millions QTIS race in January this year.
