Temolie produces Listed race winner
22 Oct 2024
Temolie became the latest Willow Park-sold broodmare to produce a stakes winner on Saturday, when Aeliana (NZ) was victorious in the Listed Reginald Allen Quality (1400m) at Royal Randwick.
Racing in the Star Thoroughbreds colours for champion trainer Chris Waller, Aeliana (Castelvecchio) was having just her fourth start and showed great tenacity to emerge from midfield on the fence and surge home ahead of the favourite, Dominetta (Zoustar).
Aeliana's performance saw her price slashed from $26 to $11 for the Group 1 MRC Thousand Guineas (1600m) next month.
A $180,000 buy for Star Thoroughbreds from the Rich Hill Stud draft at Karaka in 2023, Aeliana is the second foal from WP-sold broodmare Temolie (Star Witness), who was placed once in a short racing career before retiring due to a bleed.
The appeal for Star Thoroughbreds came via Temolie's half-sister, the brilliant mare Invincibella (I Am Invincible), a Gr1 winner of 12 races and $3million in the famous purple and white silks.
At the time Temolie was sold by Willow Park, Invincibella was a three-time Gr2 winner of $2million. She then stepped out to win the Gr1 Tattersalls Tiara (1400m) three weeks after the sale.
Meanwhile, another half-sibling in Secret Blaze (Sizzling) was twice-Gr3 placed when Temolie was sold by WP, going on to record a Listed win and Gr2 second, further upgrading the pedigree.
Having sold for $130,000 to Edinburgh Park Stud carrying her first foal by Super One, her new owners capitalised on the family's success, offering Temolie again at the 2021 Broodmare Sale, where she reached $200,000 to the bid of Rich Hill Stud, carrying Aeliana.
Temolie has since visited leading NZ sire Proisir in three seasons since relocating to Rich Hill, producing two fillies, one of whom sold for $250,000 at Karaka 2024.
