Group 1 glory for Benedetta

13 May 2024

The incredible season for Willow Park sold broodmares rolls on, as Benedetta becomes the third Gr1 winner this season from one of our sale mares!

In winning Saturday's Gr1 The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville, Benedetta joins Quintessa (NZ) and Velocious on this elite honour roll, which also features previous Gr1 winners Bonham (NZ), She's Extreme and Sunshine in Paris.

Benedetta is the third foal from Gr2 placed Whatalovelyday (Domesday), who was offered twice at Magic Millions Broodmare Sales, initially passing in as an off the track offering with a reserve of $130,000, before selling in foal to Starspangledbanner the following year for $150,000.

The astute buyer was Hancock Quality Bloodstock, securing her on behalf of Brenton and Liz Park, finding her new home at Mill Park Stud in South Australia.

Whatalovelyday's first foal unfortunately died before reaching the racetrack, but her second foal Whatafox (Foxwedge) was a Gr2 placed winner, before Benedetta came along and showed above-average ability from the moment she stepped out.

A winner of eight from 15, Benedetta has three stakes wins under her belt, as well as the rich $750,000 Inglis Sprint, plus $1.74million in the bank for Jason Warren and connections.

Whatalovelyday is one of 11 Willow Park-sold broodmares that have produced stakes winners this season, with numerous fantastic sale ring results also capping off a great season for the mares.

Last week also saw WP yearling graduate She's Extreme (Extreme Choice) top the Inglis Chairman's Sale, with a winning bid of $3.4million from Coolmore's Tom Magnier.

A product of another stakes placed, WP-sold mare in Keysbrook (So Secret), She's Extreme won three from just 11 starts, two at Gr1 level, earning $1.7million before her sale off the track.

Your next chance to purchase a broodmare from our Willow Park is the upcoming Magic Millions Broodmare Sale, but Whatalovelyday has also proven it is worth looking through the passed in lots - of which we have a handful remaining from the recent Inglis Broodmare Sale. Contact Glenn to discuss any of these mares.
