Pretty Woman's Luvnwar returns in style

08 Nov 2024

A new addition to the Willow Park broodmare ranks this season is the exceptional producer Pretty Woman (NZ), and connections were pleased to see her stakes winning daughter, Luvnwar (NZ), return to racing with a Group 3 second on Saturday at Ascot.

A lightly raced four-year-old, Luvnwar (War Decree) had three starts in her native New Zealand at three, resulting in a win and a Group 3 third, before she was snapped up by Byerley Bloodstock on behalf of leviathan owner Bob Peters.

Following her export to Perth early in 2024, Luvnwar has now recorded two wins and two second placings for new trainer Michael Grantham, including an impressive win in the Listed Belmont Guineas (1600m) in June.

First up from a spell in Saturday's Group 3 Asian Beau Stakes (1400m), Luvnwar again showed plenty of fight to finish just 0.7L behind the favourite, Group 2 winner Super Smink (Super One).

Luvnwar is one of two foals to race out of Pretty Woman, the other being fellow stakes winning mare Chokito (NZ) (Vespa), who counts the Listed Southland Guineas (1600m) among her seven wins.

Taking a break from the breeding barn for three years, her 100% stakes winners/runners record justified a return and Pretty Woman was served by War Decree (USA) last season, resulting in a full-sister (pictured) to Luvnwar foaled at Willow Park recently.

A cleverly named daughter of Pins, Pretty Woman is out of Howmuchyacharging (NZ) (Howbaddouwantit), a Group 3 winner at three and Group 1 placed two-year-old. Pretty Woman visits Coolmore's incredibly exciting first season sire Shinzo this season.
