Gr3 winner for Pure Purity

19 Nov 2025

Saturday’s Group 3 Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) at Ascot saw three runners out of Willow Park-sold broodmares, resulting in a quinella and the fourth placed horse very nearly making it a trifecta!

Group 2 winner Talkanco, a $1.16 favourite in the race, took the lead 150m from home, but was ultimately nabbed in the shaodws of the post by the fast finishing Pure Excess (Exceedance), who prevailed by a nose in a photo finish.

Pure Excess was having just her fifth start for Ascot trainer Daniel Morton, coming into the race as a maiden who finished third (with Talkanco ahead of her in second) at her previous start in the Listed Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m).

Bred and raced by Oakland Park Stud, Pure Excess is the third foal of Pure Purity [CAN] (pictured), who was sold by Willow Park at the 2020 Magic Millions Broodmare Sale.

Twice placed at Listed level and a winner of five, Pure Purity (Perfect Soul) hails from a pedigree packed with black type, including three stakes winning half-siblings. She was sold carrying her first foal by Russian Revolution for $150,000.

Talkanco (I’m All The Talk) was the leading two-year-old in Western Australia last season with two stakes wins, highlighted by the Gr2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m). Her dam, Calianco (California Dane), was sold at the 2019 edition of the same sale for $52,500.

Fourth in the race was Riva Aquarama (Star Turn), the second foal of 2021 Broodmare Sale graduate Outboard Motors (Sebring), who was sold for $60,000.

The Listed Village Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield also provided an interesting result, with the winner Boston Rock (Hellbent) out of seasonal resident mare Spurs and Sashes (Flying Spur), who was purchased by Glenn Burrows Bloodstock via Inglis Digital for just $2,750 earlier this year.

Second in the event was the consistent Hedged (Capitalist), registering his fifth black type placing, out of another 2019 MM Broodmare Sale graduate in Acing Shamrock (Fastnet Rock).

Finally, the third placed Beast Mode (Better Than Ready) is out of WP bred and sold Where It Began (Exceed and Excel). Beast Mode’s granddam Theboab (Snippets) is now retired on the farm, but he provided a welcome update for her daughter Miss Crompton (Charge Forward), who delivered her first foal by Cosmic Force this season.
