Cold Brew goes back-to-back

One could have been forgiven for thinking Winx was back at Randwick on Saturday, but the incredible scenes in the stands were all about Willow Park graduate Cold Brew as he made it two on the trot for excited connections! Stepping up from a Benchmark 72 Midway win last start and out in distance from 1300m to 1600m, the four-year-old gelding made light work of his rivals to add a fifth win to his record - all in his last six starts. Add five second placings to those five wins from just 11 starts and it’s no wonder his connections screamed the house down on Saturday! Cold Brew first raced at three, stringing together three bridesmaid finishes at his first three starts, followed by an unplaced run then a short spell. He returned last winter with another second, before scoring a three win streak culminating in a Rosehill Midway win just a day after turning four years old. At that point connections opted to sell the promising gelding online, that’s where Mustr Racing came in, purchasing him for $180,000 and bringing in a large number of new owners, including Alpha Blokes Podcast who come with their own huge following! Unfortunately the new ownership had to wait to see ‘The Brew’ at the track in their colours, with injury forcing a long spell. After a first-up fourth at the end of May in a 1100m Midway at Rosehill, Cold Brew has now begun another winning streak, stepping up in grade and distance with ease for Richard and Will Freedman. While he can be quirky and make his jockeys’ lives difficult at times, when on song Cold Brew shows plenty of talent, with Will Freedman indicating he may be capable of stakes company in the not too distant future. The latest rising star for Coolmore’s Slipper winner Pierro, Cold Brew was bred by the late Fergus Doyle from his homebred, Group 3 placed mare Connemara (Fastnet Rock). He was foaled and raised at Willow Park in 2021, before heading to Fernrigg Farm to be prepared for the Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, where he made $170,000.
