Magic Millions Yearling Sale round-up
19 Jan 2022
2022 has started in fine fashion with a fantastic edition of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, where Willow Park offered a draft of eight colts, topped by the Lope de Vega (IRE) colt from stakes placed mare Acqume, that sold for $700,000 to Ciaron Maher Racing.
The beautifully bred Acqume (Sepoy x Acquired) was sent to the UK as a travelling companion for stablemate Houtzen in 2019, returning to Australia later that year in foal to super sire Lope de Vega (Shamardal). The resultant colt was foaled at Willow Park and was very much in the mould of his sire. Lope de Vega shuttled to Australia for four years at the beginning of his career, leaving Group 1 winners Santa Ana Lane, Gytrash, Vega One and Vega Magic. Here's hoping this colt is his next Australian bred superstar!
During a busy week of parading at the Gold Coast, we saw record inspections for our first day of parading at Magic Millions, with 259 individual inspections, averaging 32 parades per horse. The busy days continued and we sold seven of eight yearlings offered at an average of $333,571, well above the sale average of $293,228. Our second highest priced lot was the colt by sub-fertile speed machine, Menari, sold for $350,000. In a huge result for his owners, the colt was the second most profitable pinhook in the catalogue, having been purchased in the June Inglis Digital Sale for $22,500, returning a profit of $327,500.
In a unique achievement, we offered a draft of horses by eight different stallions and provided the top priced lot for four of those stallions - All Too Hard, Lope de Vega, Menari and Rubick. The All Too Hard colt that sold for $310,000 to Michael Costa Racing was also a great result for Willow Park, as his dam Crimson Cash is a previous Broodmare Sale graduate. Sold for $75,000 in our 2017 Magic Millions Broodmare Sale draft carrying her first foal, this colt is her third living foal, we're always pleased to see broodmare graduates achieving great sale results for their new connections!
Attention now turns to the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, where we have a draft of 12 yearlings to offer.
