Vulpine returns in style
16 May 2022
Saturday was a big day for Willow Park graduates, with nine runners worldwide for eight top three placegetters! For good measure, the ninth horse wasn't disgraced either, beaten less than three lengths in fifth place.
Leading the troops was the Brad Widdup trained Vulpine, who put in a huge run down the outside to claim her third stakes win in the Listed Ortensia Stakes at our local Scone Cup Carnival. Last seen running second to Snapdancer (subsequently the winner of last week's Gr1 Robert Sangster Stakes) in the $1million Magic Millions Fillies and Mares race in January, Vulpine now has seven wins and seven placings to her name in 29 starts.
Sold for $340,000 at Magic Millions Gold Coast 2018 to Andrew Williams Bloodstock, BK Racing and Breeding and Millsy Girls Racing, her latest win sends her prizemoney over $600,000.
The Snitzel mare was foaled at Wexford Farm and raised at Willow Park for breeders Fergus and Delia Doyle. She is one of only three foals out of their late mare Elusive Leone (Elusive Quality), a half sister to Gr1 winner and sire Star Witness. Elusive Leone was a $550,000 purchase by James Harron Bloodstock and is also the dam of WP born Eight Diamonds (Sebring), a lightly raced dual metropolitan winner.
Saturday also saw Babylon Berlin return to her homeland, with a first start on Australian soil in the Listed Bright Shadow at Eagle Farm. While the speed machine missed the kick and found herself too far back to match motors, it was fellow WP graduate Tahitian Dancer's time to shine, going straight past from last to finish second by three-quarters of a length.
The first foal of stakes winner Takanori, the six year old mare by Dawn Approach is already a Listed winner and failed to get in foal to Trapeze Artist last season, a return to the track has proven fruitful adding more black type to her record! A winner of five races and $400,000, Tahitian Dancer is one of three stakes winners sold through our 2017 Magic Millions Gold Coast draft, alongside Etana and Not A Single Cent, where she made $80,000.
Other winning graduates today were Easy Single (Not A Single Doubt x Special Lover), who scored a tough win first up at Flemington, and Galaxy Star (Fastnet Rock x Mica's Pride), who notched his fourth win in Singapore.
Capping off the day were placegetters Peerless Warrior (Savabeel x Ruthless Lady), Dr Evil (Casino Prince x Rasay Mist), Nishikori (Real Impact x Jessolaura) and Arentee (Territories x Autumn).
