BROODMARES
A few years ago, we focused on offering a selection of well-related, young mares in foal to commercial stallions at the broodmare sales annually. From drafts of around 50 mares per year across two broodmare sales, we have begun to see some fantastic racetrack results from progeny of these broodmare sale graduates.
In the first half of the 2025/26 racing season, Willow Park-sold broodmares have already produced seven stakes winners, highlighted by Group 1 winners Libertad (ex Electric Charge) and Quintessa [NZ] (ex Chaquinta [NZ]).
Broodmares sold by Willow Park since Glenn took over in 2001 have produced 109 horses that have gained black type. This includes 15 Group 1 winners and 12 Group 2 winners. Group 1 winners produced by our broodmare graduates in the past three years include:
- CHAQUINTA [NZ] (High Chaparral) was sold for $120,000 in 2018 carrying her first foal. She is now the dam of dual Gr1 winner QUINTESSA (Shamus Award).
- ELECTRIC CHARGE (Charge Forward) was sold for $200,000 in 2016 carrying her first foal. She has since produced Gr1 winner LIBERTAD (Russian Revolution).
- HAPPY PILGRIM (Congrats) was sold for $75,000 in 2018 carrying her first foal. She is now the dam of unbeaten Gr1 winner PRIVATE HARRY (Harry Angel).
- PARMALOVE (Snitzel) was sold for $230,000 in 2018 carrying her first foal. She has since produced Gr1 winner and NZ Champion Two-Year-Old VELOCIOUS (Written Tycoon) and Listed placed Penvose Lad (U S Navy Flag). Parmalove was on-sold in 2024 for $730,000.
- ZENAIDA [NZ] (Zabeel) was sold for $240,000 in 2021 carrying her fourth foal. Her third foal (a yearling at the time of sale) became triple Gr1 winner SUNSHINE IN PARIS (Invader). Zenaida was on-sold at the 2023 Magic Millions Broodmare Sale for $1.4m, where Sunshine In Paris sold for $3.9m.
- TEMOLIE (Star Witness) was sold for $130,000 in 2019 carrying her first foal. She is now the dam of Gr1 winner AELIANA (NZ) (Castelvecchio).
- WHATALOVELYDAY (Domesday) was initially passed in off the track for $125,000, before selling the following year carrying her first foal for $150,000. She has since produced Gr1 winner BENEDETTA (Hellbent) and Gr2 placed Whatafox (Foxwedge).
