New Zealand Group 1 result of dual importance

13 Mar 2023

It was a day of mixed results on Saturday, with high anticipation for Dubenenko's run in the Gr2 Sires Produce Stakes at Flemington, where she was unfortunately involved in a mid race fall. We were thrilled to hear the talented filly was ok after the incident and look forward to her future, with a little more luck than her past two starts!

Of interest for a couple of reasons was the Group 1 Diamond Stakes for two-year-olds at Pukekohe in New Zealand. The race was won by star Kiwi juvenile Tokyo Tycoon (Satono Aladdin), who is unbeaten in five starts and counts the Karaka Million in those wins. Tokyo Tycoon provides an update for the young mare Gisabelle (Dundeel), a half sister to his dam All About The Coin (Starcraft), who will be offered at the Magic Millions Broodmare Sale in May.

From a wonderful family that traces directly to Lady Giselle (FR) - the dam of super sire Zabeel - Gisabelle is carrying her first foal by Coolmore's exciting new recruit St Mark's Basilica (IRE).

In the same race, the Gary Harding owned filly Tulsi ran a super race in third, becoming the first Group 1 performer for Arrowfield Stud's young stallion The Autumn Sun. Singled out by Glenn at the Inglis Classic Sale last year, Tulsi (ex Talimena by Lonhro) was purchased from the Valiant Stud draft for $550,000, when Gary asked Glenn to find him a filly at the sale.

Gary has a super association with Willow Park, having purchased Gr1 winner Bounding (Lonhro) from our 2011 Easter draft and later sold her through our 2016 Magic Millions Broodmare Sale draft for $1.9million, as well as selling Gr1 winner Bonham (Per Incanto) through our 2021 Magic Millions Broodmare draft for $1.6million. Long may the successful partnership continue!
